Last week when we were in L.A., Chris and I had the beautiful honor of shooting an absolutely incredible jazz musician, Christopher Wray, who has now become one of my new favorite people in life. Christopher's music is full of funk, soul and heart.... I'm a sucker for good soul music.

We spent the whole afternoon shooting, and Christopher gave Chris and I total and complete freedom to be us as artists and we couldn't be happier with the results. The shoot was a photographer's dream, from locations, to the artist we were working with, to the style of the shoot.... everything about it was right in our sweet spot.

I about jumped out of my chair when I looked at the contact sheets from Christopher's shoot. For those that don't know, my amazing husband, Chris, does most all of the film shooting on our shoots so he busted out our Hasselblad 500 C/M and the EOS-1 film bodies for this shoot. These film shots that hubby took are friggin brilliant.... and these black and whites using Tri-X 320 in 120 format just make my heart turn to buttah... wowza... you just can't get that from digital. All of the film shots that you see on here were taken with the Hassie by my hubski. Isn't he amazing? And all of the digital images were taken by moi :)

If you're wanting a little something to make your heart flutter today go stop into Christopher's Myspace  and let your ears be graced by his musical candy... you wont be disappointed :)
Any anyone who wants to see others can enjoy Christopher's lil' slideshow here

This post is well overdue considering Charlie released his latest album more than a month ago. But we finally got our copy the other day and we were so excited to see the final product of our photography work on the album.

This was such a fun project for us to take on, mostly because Charlie Hall's music has really been soul-food in certain seasons of my life. This was an awesome shoot that pushed us in a lot of fun directions creatively. Working with artists always allows for a lot of collaboration which I love.

The guys in the band are honestly some of the nicest you will ever meet. We always love working with artists, **I'm kind of partial, I married one ;)*. And Charlie  was so humble and authentic just like his music. I would encourage any of you who don't already have his album to go on and pick one up. And a huge shout out to Jesse Owens of 10am  for making our photos looks so stinkin' awesome with his Bad-A design skillz. And Thank you, Charlie and the band for giving us the honor of doing the photographs. You all are amazing.

Choosing my favorite moments of 2008 was so difficult to do!
This year truly has been one of the best years of my life. It has been full of change and challenge.... a perfect breeding ground for growth.

Our couples have really made this year amazing for us. I honestly think we have the best, raddest, purdiest, most amazing couples in the world. I find myself so attached to a lot of our images for various reasons, making  it next to impossible to pick just a handful of favorites especially when you consider that we have shot somewhere in the ballpark of 250,000ish frames throughout the course of the year!

But there was just something about these images in particular that resonate with me. When I look at the frames as a collection...most have sprinkles of imagination and others strike you right in the gut with their honesty and ingenuity. And some are chosen for reasons that perhaps only I will understand ;) there was just something about them.

I think it is so important for us as artists to look back on our different seasons, the things which we gravitated to and see how those things have changed and are different....I had a lot of fun reflecting on my different shoots, my different couples, my tendencies. I walk away realizing how much I have been stretched, how I have grown & learned to spread my wings.

But as I look upon this last year I also realize how much growth I want to see in the next.  It makes me want to push myself creatively harder than I have before, It makes me want to love more passionately and more deeply because I think at the heart of any true success their must be love for it to have any sort of genuine resolve.

Thank you to all of our beautiful couples, our beautiful friends and our beautiful families for your support in 2008. We are so blessed to have you in our lives.

Gorgeous gorgeous photos. It's so fun to watch you evolve and make the world a more beautiful, joyful, and passionate place. Sarah...there is something so pure about your images, that it is hard to describe in words. You do amazing things with your camera for amazing people and I am sure I speak for everyone out there when I say, thank you for sharing your art with all of us. Hope you both are well and I wish you both a wonderful 2009.

Jason says: Wednesday, December 31, 2008, 08:02 AM

Awesome range Kenslow! I'll have you know, you picked many of the very ones I would've picked for you :) The great thing is, When I look at those particular images, I know EXACTLY WHY I would've picked them. I know that kinda sounds lame, but to me, there's something great about an image when I'm able to immediately point out the "why" about my appreciation for it.

Sarah Rhoads says: Wednesday, December 31, 2008, 07:59 AM

A beautiful gift arrived on our doorstep the other evening... Amy Seeley's latest album: Eight Belles. It is a beautiful reflection of a road traveled and a life well lived. These songs have reminded me to dance in times of my life when I have forgotten how good it feels. Amy's music resonates with a heart yearning for the lovely things of this world.... the heart of a dreamer, the heart of a romantic.
What makes the album even more special to us is my hubby, Chris recorded the tasty bass lines on the "Training Winter Jasmine" track on the album. We always enjoy our "soul-trips" down to Portland where Chris gets to make musical greatness with Miss Seeley.  If you don't have her album you need to go to http://www.amyseeley.com/ right now and make it happen. And of course a shout out to one of the most beautiful people I know, Jesh for doing all of the photos on Amy's Album.  Check out her most fabulous web site created by Colin Black, the genius behind making our web site come to life (in the near future) as well.
Anyone who will be in Portland the weekend of January 16th come out to Amy's show; more details on her MySpace , Chris will be laying down some grooves and I'll most likely be soaking it all in and having some blueberry tea with my favorite show buddy Shannon Sewell :)
So please, please, go enhance your life by at least 500 points and go get Amy's album ;) You will thank me later.
