A few weeks ago we took a fun little day trip out to the Gorge with a group of our talented friends for a good time in the desert mess with some of our newest film cameras & play. Feels like we have shot in the desert a lot this year, once for the cover shoot of Rue back in February, and then we had another project in the desert at some point... but honestly, does shooting fabulous people in a desert ever get old? I think not ;)

I wanted to share some of these frames here since this is my little spot to post things that are going on in my creative journey. However, to see more about this shoot you can head over to our We Are the Rhoads blog. Also, our friend, Joel, put together a pretty fantastic behind the scenes video for this. He is insanely talented & so are the rest of the folks that joined us for the road trip down to the Gorge this day and helped make this come to life...

Megan B is such a freaking rock star. I would kill to work with her. Sarah and Chris, this shoot is freaking fantastic. Everything about it is great. I tweeted Chris this, but holy crap, you are brave holding that PhaseOne without a neck strap!! Is that y'alls or did you rent it for the shoot? Anyways, fantastic job as always. I feel bad always lurking and never commenting! I tell people this all the time, but you two are my biggest inspirations (aside from Steve Jobs), and that's saying a lot! Keep up the amazing work. I think I'm going to work on a personal project for myself. Time for a pick-me-up! Cheers!

I worked at Cave B for a few summers, and spent time after/before my shifts hiking these paths. I'm going to let everyone in on a secret: Though Cave B is beautiful, the Rhoads managed to make it look even more amazing than it is (an impressive feat).

On a recent trip to Dallas we had the pleasure of photographing Kayla & Clint. These two contacted us a while back about doing a lifestyle shoot of them while we were in the Dallas area. These two cuties are photographers working out of Midland, TX and made the drive up to D-town for this shoot. They ended up getting a room at the Nylo hotel which had a really cool loft, industrial & modern feel to it. Kayla & Clint said the vibe of Nylo was a true reflection of their personal style & aesthetic, making it a great place for their shoot with us. I was also stoked because you guys know what a sucker I am for yummy back-light and Dallas brought the beautiful yumminess in the light department the evening of their shoot.  We were in photographer heaven with these two.

I'm personally attached to this particular shoot because I went into it challenging myself not to just rock out a great lifestyle shoot, but I wanted to really push myself to create something more honest in my portraiture work. Oftentimes I find myself getting to that place just* before that one truly vulnerable and brilliant frame and moving on prematurely. Recently I have been challenging myself to slow down, to sit with the moment a bit longer, and wait for that something honest & truly special to happen. These two are absolutely radiant. Enjoy Kayla & Clint!

AHHHHHHHH! Freakin' out! IN LOVE with them of course! We had SO much fun with ya'll! We are going to treasure these forever! SO us!

We had the pleasure of shooting the cover story for Rue Magazine's fourth Issue in the Vegas desert in February of this year. We had so much fun at that shoot, all of us decided to do it all over again, this time in San Francisco! We are so thrilled to have a 12 page lifestyle/fashion story for Rue Magazine's very special anniversary issue

This magazine is made up of some of the coolest most inspirational gals out there. They are women that set their minds to something and do it exceptionally well. I am so impressed by everything these gals have accomplished in just one short year. I am especially grateful for the way this magazine brings people together. Rue has given me a beautiful & kindred spirit friend in miss Anne Sage who is the magazines Executive Editor. Anne, Chris and I collectively dreamed up this shoot & somehow made it all happen in a little less than a week. Anne did ALL of the fantastic styling for this and I honestly would wear every one of these pieces she put on Charlotte. So yummy.

So now run over & check out this issue of Rue! Their issues are always so full of interior & lifestyle goodness & this one is no different! I always catch myself wanting to pin everything to my boards. Our story is on pages 90-102* & check out this fab behind the scenes video Oskari Polho put together for this!

A few weeks ago Chris and I went over to our friend, Tiffany's house for a fun little shoot we put together on one of the last weeks of summer. Tiff's husband, Sean, has a great little classic fiat that he was kind enough to let us borrow for this. This shoot was going to be a  100% film shoot, but I think we got sucked into some kind of crazy Bermuda triangle this day and our Hassleblad, Leica & Contax all stopped working on us... thankfully, we had one backup digital camera in our car that we were able to use for this. How it is possible for all of our perfectly great film cameras to breakdown at once still blows my mind?! but whatever! I guess the universe was just telling us NO for whatever reason. We ended up getting some really great frames from this day regardless & I may post more from the second part of this shoot next week :)

What is everyone up to this weekend? We have the weekend off, which I'm thrilled about because the seasons are changing, the air is nice & crisp & the colors are starting to pop through on the trees. There is no place greater to be than Seattle in the fall. I think we will go on a hunt for a couple of end chairs for our dining room & go to the market on Sunday, I'll probably test out my new camera that Chris got me for my birthday & just relax a little. I've really been craving some delish apple cider... so I think I'm going to make it my personal quest to track down some of that kind of goodness. Happy Friday guys!
