When I was about eleven years old I had the most awesome nanny who drove a stick shift silver camero with T-tops. She was beautiful, fun and one day I wanted to grow up to be just as cool as her. She introduced my sister and I to the wonderful tunes of En Vogue and the three of us would sing "Free Your Mind" at the top of our lungs in the car together, laughing. She put up with a lot of crap from my sister, Katy, and I. We fought like any good sisters do and Lisa endured it.

That super cool nanny was Lisa Dulli, now Lisa Deese. I haven't seen Lisa since she stopped nannying for us when I was about 12 years old. So when she asked me to photograph her family when I was home in Chicago last week I was so excited. A lot can change in 13 years, and a lot has. Lisa now has three beautiful girls and her silver Camero has been traded for a silver mini van :). I have also changed, I'm no longer that little confused sixth grade girl, and fortunately for everyone, my sister and I get along much better now that we are older :)

Lisa is a very special person to me. She knew my dad and my family well, which is precious to me. When you loose a parent at a young age, you cherish the people that knew that person.... like somehow being close to them is like being closer to dad in some strange way. It was a very neat experience to photograph Lisa's sweet little family. It was like looking at yourself decades ago and seeing how far you had come. Sam is the oldest girl who is about 11, Maddie is 8 and Kenzie is 4. This shoot brought back so many memories of my family when I was that age and it made me grateful.

You are the best Sarah. The pictures are amazing. You captured the essence of what the 4 of us are about and that was exactly what I wanted. This was such a special experience for me as well and like coming full circle. You and your sister, Katy, were my first "kids" and my girls remind me everyday of those fun times I had with the 2 of you. Your family holds a special place in my heart always and knowing your dad was a privilege. He was a wonderful man who lives on through you. He would be so proud of you Sarah. Thank you for capturing the love I have for my girls... xoxo

This is Kate and Nick. They are one of the raddest couples you could ever meet. We love them like fat boys love cake. Kate is an absolutely fantastic designer, her work makes me completely giddy inside, you can check out her work here: http://www.croakandhum.com/. Nick has a beard that would make any man jealous and he's a very talented bassist for one of my favorite bands; he definitely knows how to lay down some tasty treats when he slapa-da-bass :).

These two are one of those creative power couples that we feel lucky to know and have as clients and friends. These two just ebb of positive energy and life. You cannot walk away from a Kate & Nick experience and not feel inspired and refreshed. It is always so nice to meet people who tackle life from similar perspectives. These two felt like kindred spirits and old friends from the get go. Kate & Nick look at the world as their playground, they don't take life too seriously and they pursue their passions with a great deal of excitement and dedication. It's so nice when our work connects us with these kind of beautiful people that become so much more than just clients. We cannot wait for their wedding in November. Watch out. It's going to be pretty killer.

I have to give some huge shout outs to my girl, Tiffany Lowry who did a fantastic job on Kate's hair and make up for their shoot. Kate is so adorable, Tiffany just has an amazing way of bringing all that adorable'ness' out in someone :)

And for those tech geeks out there the fuji film shots are 3000B negative reversal scans.

A couple of months ago we were contacted by EMI CMG in Nashville about photographing one of their artists, Shawn McDonald for his upcoming album. We were totally excited about the project because we love Shawn's music, his heart, his honesty and his story. Shawn is the type of guy who is 100% authentic and down to earth. Plus, he's originally from Seattle which makes him extra amazing :)

Shawn now lives in Ohio and came out to Seattle for the shoot with us. Chris shot all the film frames in the set with our hassie and Leica M6 and I shot the digital images. Tiffany Lowry did her magic on hair and make up and offered some of her styling expertise as well. We spent the day together going all around Seattle capturing different parts of Shawn's three-dimentional personality and style. I'm really excited about this upcoming record for him, I see and hear so much freedom in his voice and the few songs I heard from the album are just beautiful. It's definitely worth a good listen.

Make up/Hair/Styling: Tiffany Lowry

Incredible, Sarah!
The one in front of the fridge is my fave. It's sort of effortlessly retro. Good old fashioned feel without trying to hard. Maybe that doesn't make sense, but point is that it's gorgeous and I love it.

Meet Calvin & Vanessa. They are our new friends who we love. We'll be shooting their wedding next year in California and it's going to be awesome. They came up from the Bay area to do their engagement session with us here in Seattle, we had a blast together. These two are super talented artists & designers. We hit it off over the phone a few months ago, sparks flew, emotions ran high, and the rest is history.

This couple and shoot is right in our sweet spot. Here's why- It is people totally comfortable in their own skin, they've got great chemistry together... nothing about this is insincere. These two have been together for six years and still laugh easily at one another. They know what they like and they also know what they DONT like. I like people with opinions. Opinions make the world interesting and I've got a few of them myself ;). They've got great personal style and we can talk pop culture with them for hours. (Calvin is my "music" guy- he introduced me to the band XX before they were anybody). Bottom line is this... these two are amazing people that make the world more interesting and beautiful by just being them.

On a personal note, my momma and aunt have been in town from Oklahoma for this week so I have had a lot of fun showing them around Seattle and being a tourist in my own city. It has been a blast! Today we are going hiking up in Mount Rainier and I cannot wait to spend the day away from all the hustle and just enjoying being with people I love. Have an amazing day kids!
