There is just something beautiful about film. Something that cannot be re-created on a digital camera. Something nostalgic. It takes me back to my roots. Chris & I have been shooting some film recently.... we just have the bug I suppose. Here are a few frames from a shoot we had last weekend with our amazing friends Casey & Danielle

The first and last frames were shot with our Hasselblad 500C/M (6x6 medium format).  We used Kodak's 160 Portra VC 120 film, which makes for some oh so purdy colors.

The next series was shot with our Canon Demi EE17  with Tri-X (400) *my favorite black and white film :) - The Canon Demi is a half frame camera, "Demi" being the french word for half. It uses 35mm film, but takes two 24x18mm exposures in the place of a normal 24x36 film frame. Giving us 72 half frame exposures on a 36 exposure role. Neat huh? I love this little guy.

The last two black and white shots were shot with a Canon 1V  with Tri-X 400 (pushed to 800) and developed w/ D76 one to one.

So there are some specs for those film-heads out there who care. Enjoy some filmy goodness.

Full post coming soon...

Yep, still gotta love some film. Digital is great, but film still has a unique look: especially optical darkroom prints!

The color of the 160VC shots are absolutely amazing! It's very high on my list this year to shoot more film. Can't wait to see the whole series.

Your blog seriously just rocks my world. I love that there are pictures of you shooting them, it gives it even more of a nostalgic feel to see the progression of the shoot. I just love it all.

It's been a really long time since I shot film. When rearranging some stuff in my closets and going over my old cameras I told myself that it would be great to do it again. You just pushed more in that direction. I will probably try to get some rolls this week end in case the sun shines

Choosing my favorite moments of 2008 was so difficult to do!
This year truly has been one of the best years of my life. It has been full of change and challenge.... a perfect breeding ground for growth.

Our couples have really made this year amazing for us. I honestly think we have the best, raddest, purdiest, most amazing couples in the world. I find myself so attached to a lot of our images for various reasons, making  it next to impossible to pick just a handful of favorites especially when you consider that we have shot somewhere in the ballpark of 250,000ish frames throughout the course of the year!

But there was just something about these images in particular that resonate with me. When I look at the frames as a collection...most have sprinkles of imagination and others strike you right in the gut with their honesty and ingenuity. And some are chosen for reasons that perhaps only I will understand ;) there was just something about them.

I think it is so important for us as artists to look back on our different seasons, the things which we gravitated to and see how those things have changed and are different....I had a lot of fun reflecting on my different shoots, my different couples, my tendencies. I walk away realizing how much I have been stretched, how I have grown & learned to spread my wings.

But as I look upon this last year I also realize how much growth I want to see in the next.  It makes me want to push myself creatively harder than I have before, It makes me want to love more passionately and more deeply because I think at the heart of any true success their must be love for it to have any sort of genuine resolve.

Thank you to all of our beautiful couples, our beautiful friends and our beautiful families for your support in 2008. We are so blessed to have you in our lives.

Your work is amazing and I HEART your self portrait. It's nice to find a place I can peek in and be inspired. I love Seattle and had a shoot there last year. What a great place to live. Maybe some day we can meet. Let me know if you ever come by Denver. Your very soon future HORIZONTAL sister!

Gorgeous gorgeous photos. It's so fun to watch you evolve and make the world a more beautiful, joyful, and passionate place. I love this line "I think at the heart of any true success their must be love for it to have any sort of genuine resolve". And you, my bestie, leave your mark of love everywhere you go.

Can't wait to see what's to come from SRP in '09!

Sarah...there is something so pure about your images, that it is hard to describe in words. You do amazing things with your camera for amazing people and I am sure I speak for everyone out there when I say, thank you for sharing your art with all of us. Hope you both are well and I wish you both a wonderful 2009.

Awesome range Kenslow! I'll have you know, you picked many of the very ones I would've picked for you :) The great thing is, When I look at those particular images, I know EXACTLY WHY I would've picked them. I know that kinda sounds lame, but to me, there's something great about an image when I'm able to immediately point out the "why" about my appreciation for it.
