We were really thrilled to have so many of our images scattered throughout this version of ETC Magazine for one of our commercial clients at Seattle Pacific University! It was so fun to get the magazine and see one of our images right on the cover nice and big :) Here are a few tears from the magazine.

These guys are one of our favorite commercial clients and they are also our "neighbors" since we live right down the street from the University. Marissa, our intern from last year as well as Dorothy, our current intern both go to school there so we are huge SPU fans :) It's an incredible university that we are always excited to partner with.

One of these shoots was done with a crew of bikers that went cross country (literally) this summer on their bikes. They were absolutely hilarious and I wanted to make each one my new best friend. Each of these shoots with the various students was a blast. There is something so fun about working with college aged people. College is such an important time in life. I'm a huge fan of going to college- even if you aren't sure what you want to do, or how a "major" will help you later on in life. It is a time of growth and discovery on so many levels. I'll let you in on a big secret, it's not really about the "major" and the diploma. At the end of the day, it's about all of the beautiful things you learn about yourself. And for that, college is worth every penny.

A few months ago we were contracted by Relevant magazine to shoot Eugene Cho who started a wonderful non-profit here in Seattle called One Day's Wages. We had a blast photographing him and were excited to see the final tear sheet in last months magazine. The concept behind Eugene's non-profit is dedicated to ended extreme global poverty. This is an organization that believes in collaboration, dreaming big, loving others and forward movement.

The name, One Day's Wages, comes from the concept that one day of your wages, which is equivalent to about .4% of your annual salary can make a life changing impact in the lives of those living in extreme poverty. For instance:
- $20 can provide clean water for one person for 20 years.
- $10 can purchase a bed net to help prevent malaria
- $45 can pay annual school tuition for one child.

It's crazy to me that so little in our eyes can go SOO far in someones life. It was an honor to get to know Eugene and get familiar with his organization while we were working with him on this shoot for Relevant. It's always encouraging to see people who aren't afraid to dream audacious dreams. We forget that those are the dreams that need to be dreamed. Those are the dreams that change the world.

I feel blessed to have met this fellow world changer, Eugene Cho. Check out the organization and if you decide it's something you want to do donate to you can do that here

Enjoy these tears that made the final cut for the magazine.

A while back I was contacted by a fantastic stylist in Portland, Rebecca Westby about putting together a test this summer on her parents property in Gig Harbor. When she told me there was mini-ponies, sheep and all kinds of other little intriguing creatures I was sold! :)

This is part one of an all day shoot we had in the country a few weeks ago. I cannot stress the importance of shooting for yourself enough. We are so busy right now it would seem crazy to most people to go out and do a test, but I would dare to say they are absolutely necessary to staying fresh and pushing ourselves as photographers and artists. It's essential to go out and shoot something different than what you are used to and have the freedom to try something different and see things from an entirely new perspective. This shoot was exactly what I needed in the middle of our busy season. It was so much fun to be out there frolicking in the sunshine with an amazing group of people who made this shoot a reality. I am so thankful for the talented friends that gather round to share their talents with the world. They are what make shoots like this come to life. Happy Friday everyone!

This shoot reminds me sooooo much of my sister! I know weird huh?! But throughout high school she was my 'test' model with all my school projects and we would just go out into the desert/junk yards and experiment with light, clothing, pets (chickens & rabbits) and pretty much goof off. It was a BLAST and this shoot has made me realize I need to do that more often. Thank you :)

Kirstie says: Monday, July 12, 2010, 06:10 PM

The black and white of her leaning into the pony's face is simply magical.

We love the opportunities we get to work with SPU. We are huge fans of the university. Our intern, Marissa, goes to school there. One of the designers we work with, Tyler, graduated from SPU and we've been involved with their mentor program for the past couple of years. Bottom line, they are great clients of ours and we are so thrilled to be able to link arms with them.

A couple of weeks ago I got the most recent ETC magazine that we shot for in the mail and we were so excited to see our shoot with Taylor Neal and our shoot with Kristy as full spreads. These are just a couple of tear sheets from the magazine that I thought I would share today. It's always so good to see the work in tactile form. I feel like I spend so much time looking at our images on computer screens. There is nothing better than being able to touch and feel it and see your work printed with quality and care.

Today is Friday, I can hardly believe how quickly this week has flown. Chris and I are going to be spending the weekend packing- joy! (sarcasm) :) We're going to be moving this month and there is A LOT of work to be done between now and then.

So fun to see work in print. Looks great!

Adam says: Friday, May 7, 2010, 10:00 AM

I totally agree on the tactile bit! At least shooting some film, you can hold the odd neg in your hand!

I think I'm more excited about some of my prints going up in a birth center than most of my other work this summer!

(SPU rocks btw!)

Congrats on the tears! These all look great.
