We are so excited to be collaborating with the fantastic gals over at Rue Magazine for an editorial shoot in Vegas for their upcoming Issue! If you haven't checked out the magazine stop what you are doing right now and go get you some eye candy. It's a whimsy lovers delight and for those of you who love furniture and home decor (like chris and I) you will be in a sort of comatose state of delight :) It is just that good.

Our good friends over at Airplanes & Blazers helped this all come together and we are so excited for the collaboration of wonderful creatives! To make this even MORE fun we are giving away ONE spot to a lucky winner who will get to be on set as we shoot the campaign on February 23rd in Vegas. If you have a curiousity in seeing how we shoot, or how a campaign comes together this is for you! We get so many emails about seeing how we work with our subjects that we thought there is no better way than to be there on set with us and seeing the behind the scenes of how a real campaign unfolds. So this is how to play:
*Run over to the Airplanes & Blazers blog and leave a comment in the comment section of THEIR blog describing what dessert you would eat in desert in ooey gooey chewy detail and why you think you should win a spot on set *Then twitter something involving @SarahRhoads @RueMagazine & @AirplaneBlazers

Runners up will win tickets to the Airplanes & Blazers party!

We will decide on a winner within the week! Good luck and we'll see you in VEGAS!

Last week we went out and made some magic with our buddies Matt, Melissa & Forrest. We had fun, I especially loved this fantastically quirky little green bubble van. It was playful and totally cute. This is the result of some of the goodness we made with Tiffany Lowry by our side on the makeup/hair and all things fabulous front. I have a thing for red heads. I love them!! So Melissa's cherry red hair just made my day.

In other news, I have been giving this Hot Yoga thing a shot. For those of you who are not familiar with this form of torture it involves going into a room that is 105 degrees and contorting your body into all kinds of weird shapes. It is seriously destroying me in the best way possible. I have never sweat so much in my life. I started seeing stars the first class so I spent about 30% of the time in my favorite yoga position, childs repose in a desperate attempt not to pass out (embarrassing). But the feeling I had after the class was like none other. I could feel my heart beat in my face and I'm pretty positive I looked like strawberry. It felt exhilarating to push myself like that, to really wear myself out. I had a rush, I felt energized despite the exhaustion.

I guess that Hot Yoga experience is sort of an anecdote for my life right now. I just want to pour myself out in this life.... give all I can to each day, each conversation I have with a person, to each creative endeavor. I want to be tired at the end of my life- tired in the best way possible. Like a Hot yoga tired. That feeling of knowing that even though it doesn't feel good during the process, the end result is greatness. Nothing in life that is meaningful is EVER easy... that is something I am learning as I grow up. I'm glad I am learning it now so that way I can get over the rough patches with tenacity and stick it out knowing that things that really matter take lots of hard work. What I'm discovering is that the "hard part" is a beautiful refinement process happening within us towards a positive change, a bigger heart and bigger eyes to see what lies ahead. So although it is hard... it is a beautiful kind of difficult. One that reaps fruit in our lives. This is going to be an exciting year... I can just feel it in my soul... but exciting usually also means challenging and hard. I'm preparing myself to run the race marked out for me.

Rebecca says: Monday, January 31, 2011, 09:20 PM

Beautiful! I wish I could pull off jaw-dropping hair colour like that.
In a crazy past life I used to love Bikram yoga, so when a studio finally opened down the rd a couple of months ago I gave it a try again. I passed out - TWICE. So, I'm giving it a rest until I have the courage to be embarrassed again! ;)

Sarah - the colors here are so beautiful and rich and warm. I love all the details like, the fabric under the ripped jeans on the guy, and the girl looks amazingly put together. Her striped sleeves and bracelets = love. What a great shoot, thank you so much for sharing your work. You inspire me every time I see it!

awesome set!! love! I've done hot yoga a few times and really love it, when it was described to me I thought it would be disgusting and it was a little smelly but whatever I have the best feeling afterward, like I'd been refreshed, cleaned out, cleansed and stretched nicely... just thinking about it makes me want to do it again... if only I could afford it.

i just started hot yoga this year, too! FANTASTIC! hubby loves it as well and he doesn't usually do yoga. definitely have never sweat so much and the main drawback is how soaked our mats get, even through the towel. :) adds a couple extra loads of laundry per week....totally worth it!!

sommer says: Friday, January 28, 2011, 01:41 PM

I read your headline and was immediately like, "Yes! Another person I can gush about hot yoga with!" I just started hot yoga in November and immediately fell in love with for the same reasons you (so wonderfully!) describe. In December, I decided to challenge myself to complete 30 classes in 30 days. As I was 12 days in, my studio started an official challenge of 60 classes in 60 days. Call me a fool, but I signed up. Today is my 40th consecutive day of hot yoga and I have never felt so amazing in my life. I love hearing how amazing it makes other people feel and I especially love your correlation of yoga to life - "I want to be tired at the end of my life- tired in the best way possible. Like a Hot yoga tired." Those are so fabulous words!!!

My beautiful friend miss Amy Seeley had a big announcement this week. Her new record, Plum Coulee dropped a couple of days ago on November 30th. We are so excited for her over at the Rhoads abode. I love collaboration with other artists, so this was an especially project for us to be a part of. We were so excited to be able to photograph the album art associated with Amy's new Plum Coulee Album. We have loved Amy's music for a long time. Chris played bass on her past album Eight Bells and that album will always remain a staple for us at the Rhoads.

I will never forget the first time I saw Amy play.... her hair was flying and it wasn't her fingers, but rather her heart that was playing the piano. You get lost watching Amy play. There is nothing more powerful than seeing someone do exactly what they were created for. It is a beautiful gift to see that kind of radiance ebbing from someone. Her music is soul food. It's full of honesty, heart and soul. It's tea-on-a-rainy-day type music, it's music that makes you connect with parts of yourself that you sometimes forget.

Our dear friends Jesse & Tyler were the art directors and designers behind much of what you see in terms of the album design. It was such a killer team of people... all of which we call dear friends. Now do yourself a favor and run over and pick you up one of Amy's albums... you can look at pretty pictures by us, pretty art by Jesse & Tyler and more importantly have your ears graced by pretty music by Amy :)

A couple of months ago we were contacted by EMI CMG in Nashville about photographing one of their artists, Shawn McDonald for his upcoming album. We were totally excited about the project because we love Shawn's music, his heart, his honesty and his story. Shawn is the type of guy who is 100% authentic and down to earth. Plus, he's originally from Seattle which makes him extra amazing :)

Shawn now lives in Ohio and came out to Seattle for the shoot with us. Chris shot all the film frames in the set with our hassie and Leica M6 and I shot the digital images. Tiffany Lowry did her magic on hair and make up and offered some of her styling expertise as well. We spent the day together going all around Seattle capturing different parts of Shawn's three-dimentional personality and style. I'm really excited about this upcoming record for him, I see and hear so much freedom in his voice and the few songs I heard from the album are just beautiful. It's definitely worth a good listen.

Record Label: EMI CMG
Make up/Hair/Styling: Tiffany Lowry

The one in front of the fridge is my fave. It's sort of effortlessly retro. Good old fashioned feel without trying to hard. Maybe that doesn't make sense, but point is that it's gorgeous and I love it.
