Sacha & Luke are just plain incredible people. Their love for people and amazing character is so evident to everyone they come into contact with. Luke & Sacha are some of the most thoughtful and considerate people you could ever meet.  These two live a life full of adventure and chase after their passions with reckless abandonment. These two get what life is all about if you ask me.

Luke & Sacha are very talented videographers and photographers. There is no greater compliment than to be asked to photograph a fellow creatives' wedding. And their is no better place to be asked to do it than in Banff, Canada ;).  Their day was an absolute dream. Chris and I didn't feel like we worked for a second. Luke & Sacha are the type of people who think of everything. Their day was pure play and adventure. For their portrait session Sacha & Luke scouted out some amazing little spots and the four of us decided it would only be appropriate if we could somehow get to the top of a very high mountain together to shoot some gnarly photos. So we decided to take a gondola ride up a verrrry steep mountain for part of their portrait session! I have never been afraid of heights. but midway up the hill as the little gondola cart was moving around in the wind and I looked down I got a little queasy, eek! But once we got out at the top and looked around at the sheer beauty that surrounded us, it was well worth the rocky little gondola ride to the top :)

There were so many moments that I just had to stop and smile throughout Sacha & Luke's day. Smile because we had the honor of being right there next to them doing something I love so much, smile because these two beautiful people had found and chose one another among six billion other fish in the sea. That to me is amazing. Enjoy a little bit of Sacha & Luke and our adventures in Banff!

Enchanting. Really. I've never seen anything like it. Did you all shoot the mountain ones before the ceremony or were the bride and groom just super generous with the in-between time?

Wei & Diane are dear friends of ours. While we were in Canada last week they were kind enough to open their home to us and let us stay a couple days while we were in Calgary before we headed to photograph a wedding in Banff. These two are true friends to us. I met Wei almost three years ago at Life as an Artform in Vancouver B.C. We were both in such different places in life at that point. I remember immediately gravitating to Wei because he had a certain depth to him that really intrigued me. We kept in touch and have become great friends over the years. I always say that the people who support and believe in you when you are nothing are the ones to keep around. Wei has always had the eyes to see me for the work that I am becoming not for what I am, and I am so thankful for that.

I had the pleasure of meeting what might be the funniest girl I know, Diane, at WPPI a couple of years ago. These two are the couple that walk in a room and everyone turns and looks because their style is just bomb dot com. We decided it would be fun to shoot these two for our mentor session with Laurie while we were in Calgary. We had so much fun and I adore these photos.... mostly because I really adore the people in them.

Wow. Sarah, I've been a silent fan for a while. I'm not sure why it's taken so long to comment; likewise, I'm not sure while this spread of Diane & Wei spurred me to comment. My favorite is the shot of Wei meditating. As always, your work is a delight and an inspiration. Your blog layout also rocks - love the horizontal layout!

Welcome to a series that I like to call "Underwater Jai," this is where we have sweet Jai cannon-ball into a really cold pool on an overcast day and freeze her buns off! haha. She was such a trooper and even though I know she was freezing she didn't show it for a second.

Chris has been scuba diving since he was a a kid. He is one certification away from having his master diver so he has the amazing ability to breathe underwater... ;)... not really, but it sure seems like it, the boy can hold his breath underwater for an upwards of three minutes making him the ruling champion on this part of the shoot. Since the underwater portion of this shoot was kind of a last minute decision, we decided to simplify things and not get full on scuba gear. So my husbands' under-water breathing superpower to came in quite handy.

Although Chris has shot underwater before, it was my first time. I always love experimenting, getting out of my comfort zone and trying new things. One of my goals for myself this year was to rent underwater housing and explore shooting underwater. It is an entirely different experience than shooting on land. I have to say, as I put my camera into the pool in the housing I closed my eyes, held my breath for a good long second and just held onto the hope that the enclosure was fully sealed. It was a bit of a panic because if you miss one step in putting your camera in the housing correctly the entire thing can leak out and then it is buh-bye camera and lens which would be no bueno. Luckily we had a good set up and everything worked as planned.

This part of the shoot was purely experimental for me. I'm a huge advocate of forcing myself to try new things that scare me. Shooting underwater scared me initially because it was the land of "un-knowns." I am so glad that I did this and faced my fear. This time the underwater shoot was in a cold pool in Palm Springs, but next time hopefully it will be in an ocean in Maui somewhere :)

Definitely love the huge bubble shot and the ones with the lights?! Yes, lights? I love that one of your goals this year was to shoot underwater and you have accomplished that goal! yea! There is so much about this business that takes away from shooting, that sometimes I feel (and this is probably bad to say) that it takes away from me thinking in photography. The better and fuller an artist knows their medium the more they just start thinking and creating. All the business and nitty gritty just takes that time away from being able to aspire. So I definitely am cheering for you!

the color in the last one is to die for... love that blue :) i do have a question... when you're styling these sessions yourselves, does that mean you're purchasing the goods (clothes, shoes, accessories, etc.) or borrowing? or returning? ;) would love to do some "shoot for me" shoots, but the styling part stumps me...

I would be totally freaked out to dunk my camera too! I've heard it's good to sink the actual housing unit without anything in it prior to putting the camera in and dunking to make sure the actual unit isn't faulty first.

So glad you were able to try this! The photos are great and getting out of your comfort zone totally makes you grow as a person...and photographer!
