I have been reading a brilliant book by Steven Pressfield called "The War of Art." It has had so many challenging and comforting insights into the creative process. One of the things I read this weekend that really stuck with me was this....

"Of any activity you do, ask yourself: If I were the last person on earth, would I still do it?"

I mean, if zombies came and attacked and I literally was the last person standing on the planet... would I still be taking pictures, showing up to the studio, wrapping my hands around the camera; or for a writer, would you still be writing that book or for a painter would you still be working on that art piece?

It is such a pointed and evocative question that points to our true purpose and motivation for doing the things that we do. If we had no one to show our work to, no one to praise us... would we still do it? If we are only doing it for fame/notoriety, I would argue that we haven't truly found that thing that makes us tick. I have a friend, Sarah Dawn, who absolutely LOVES shoes... I have no doubt that if she was the last woman standing she would be risking her life to break into abandoned shops to get her hands on a pair of Manolo Blanhiks for no one other than herself. Because she absolutley loves the way shoes make her feel, the way they look on her feet. They aren't for anyone else but her.

For me the answer to that question is an undeniable YES. I would be wrapping my hands around that camera if I were the last person standing. And I feel grateful to be able to say that, when so many are still searching to find that thing that makes them tick. I recognize I am merely a vessel for the things I create. But we must keep our motivation in check as artists, making sure that we are doing things not for the sake of others, but because we truly LOVE what we are doing.

So what about you, if you were the last person on the planet would you still be doing exactly what you are doing?

*The photo in this post was a collaboration with my good friend Tiffany Lowry who did the hair/makeup & styling :)

I would go down with my camera in my hand. But that also brings up another question..."Should you ever take a break from your camera?"

Regards,
Carl from T.O.

@AnneMarie It's not about checking e mail, news, phone calls... those are tedious for all of us, not to mention, if it were the end of the world, who would be emailing you and who would be reporting the news? ;) The question is really pointed at the bigger picture...are you doing something that you really love.

AnneMarie says: Tuesday, January 25, 2011, 02:59 PM

Someone has to say no so it might as well be me. If I were the last person on earth, I would not worry about checking e-mails, reading the news or caring about much money is in my account. It's the little things that are soo time consuming and lead no where really.

The photo is really great!

kathleen says: Monday, January 24, 2011, 08:12 PM

I definitely wouldn't be spending my days the same way I currently do... I'm one of those still searching. I appreciate the food for thought, though, and the inspiring perspective that comes through in your photos and blog posts. I'll have to check out this book!

ryan says: Monday, January 24, 2011, 07:56 PM

Hey Sarah, I absolutely love The War of Art (and most of the other books you read) and I try to make myself read that book at least once a quarter.

However... on this one, not so sure. Isn't a huge factor in the creation of art the giving of a gift to another person? Isn't art about sending a message of beauty to another person? Maybe even the biggest factor? The most motivating?

Of course maybe the zombies would love your photos but not as much as the humans that are around to see them now. : )

adam says: Monday, January 24, 2011, 05:50 PM

Those would be some pretty awesomely sick photographs if it were truly a zombie apocalypse. Great point, I truly would never leave without it. I'm sure it would become my safety net... a bit of comfort in an uncomfortable world.

Annie says: Monday, January 24, 2011, 03:57 PM

Yes! I would take more photos because there would be no one around to tell me I was trespassing! :)

Blair says: Monday, January 24, 2011, 01:57 PM

Love this!
Yes yes yes!

jarrod renaud says: Monday, January 24, 2011, 01:53 PM

I'm wearing that scarf today:) I also think I'd try to show the Zombies how to use lipgloss and style their hair ;)

emily says: Monday, January 24, 2011, 12:02 PM

YES! I would still be shooting. But I still think I have a lot to discover in that truth, and I still need to check my motives at times. Good questions.

ShariLee says: Monday, January 24, 2011, 12:00 PM

well put sarah. a great reminder to check the motivation behind what we are doing....and the answer to your question is a big yes!

Kevin Wrenn Photography says: Monday, January 24, 2011, 11:51 AM

I'd still be shooting, however I'd set the mode to "Shoot without Card" and I'd take the card out and shoot like nobody's business ;-)

There's a wonderful exhilaration during the capturing process that keeps me from even needing to ever see the final image. I think I'd just hang out in that space if there was no one to see the images.

Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone had a fantastic MLK day! If you are like me, it looked a lot like a regular work day ;) but either way, I like an excuse to celebrate a good thing.

So today I have A few random ramblings/announcements etc. etc...

#1) We are happy to announce the winner of the Kelly Moore Bag Giveaway from last week goes to Beth T!!! Congrats Beth!! And thank you to all of you who participated via twitters and comments! It is such a killer bag, I wish I could send one to each of you. But since I can't, feel free to put one on your wish list.

#2) Since we get a lot of emails about our photo processing and I just don't have time to answer all the questions individually we figured we would try something new today and give you guys a taste of how we process with Jesh de Rox Colorshift Actions & Boutwell's Totally Rad ActionsThese action sets are a major part of our photo enhancement process. I would encourage you to pick up either one of these fabulous action sets. They are on "Sarah's list of favorite things." They are huge time savors and are just well made actions.

Image #1 (Black & White) is processed using Jesh de Rox Colorshift Actions using one of my very favorite black & white actions Evening Obscura run at 100% with the darks pulled up a bit. Then I always like to toss on a little grain to give the image some texture, we love using Boutwell's Totally Rad Actions Grainstorm on 20% opacity.

Image #2 (Color Image) is processed by first running Totally Rad Actions B&W Red Channel action on 9%. Then we ran one of the Colorshift Actions, A Winter Sun on 34% and Voila!

Hope that helps some of you out! Those are a few of our very favorite actions and we use both action sets in combination for most everything!

I know this is an older post, but I was hoping to revisit the post/color processing on these two images. You mention the actions you used to achieve the "look", but what about even before the actions? What kind of white balance, color correction (not grading ;-), contrast, clarity, etc (if any) do you do to your photos as a foundation before you grade them? Thanks in advance! Love your work.

Stacey says: Wednesday, February 9, 2011, 06:55 PM

Awe yeah, those are my two fav, most often used sets too! I love how every photographer comes up with beautiful and unique recipes even if we're using similar tools. Thanks for sharing!

Love the way your images always inspire...I just have one annoying technical question...just wondering how you keep your images so beautifully consist. Do you create droplets, batch process or take each image into photoshop separately?

Love hearing about your secrets because your photos always look great!!!

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (or creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would otherwise never have occurred.  A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man would have believed would have come his way." - W.H. Murray

The culture surrounding the life of a creative forces us to embrace the 'Sink or Swim' mentality. A notion that follows gut instinct and dreams and embraces the maxim, "Leap, and the net will appear." In my experience, living this out always uncomfortable and is never easy, but a completely necessary part of tapping into our potential and achieving those things we hope & dream for. We must jump out of the boat and commit ourselves to that which pulls us forward. We must swim. We will never create anything brilliant or accomplish anything worth mentioning with one foot in the boat and one foot outside. We have to be fully committed to that which we seek.

The quote above is by explorer W.H Murray and it is so spot on... it is amazing what happens when we actually commit ourselves to our dreams. Doors open and we see providence move in our lives. The right people come into the equation and things just start to gain momentum. Dreams aren't something we can be lackadaisical about. In my experience, we must be fiercely intentional and put ourselves in situations that force us to sink or swim. Those situations are the ones where we grow the most and realize the depths of our immense potential. If this we're an easy task to overcome we would see thousands upon thousands of people winning nobel peace prizes, writing award winning novels, creating brilliant works of art, directing award winning movies. But it's never easy. The encouraging thing to me is that I am the only person standing in my way... and if I can battle the giants in my own mind I am capable of anything.

many thanks for these beautiful words! i'm thankful to have married a man this year that took my hand and encouraged me to jump into my own business--what a mix of wonderful emotions on this new adventure!

while planning and scheming, the only recurring words that came to me were from proust's 'swann's way' about being an "explorer of the invisible."

So, true... so, true. I spent much of my life, waiting to be shown what it is, that I'm supposed to be doing with myself... I was confused and a bit lost, for too long. I had some eureka moments awhile back, that made me realize what I'm supposed to be doing(taking photos) and the Universe has only helped to push me further along on this path. I only need to really commit, in order to be where I want to be. And I know that involves diving into the deep end.

For the past five years I have been on the hunt for the perfect camera bag. I have tried them all. Literally, you name it and I've tried it. So when my girlfriend Kelly came out with her new line of bags last year I initially had my doubts, that is until I checked one out. Chris and I have been using our Kelly Moore bags ever since and let me tell you, they are absolutley incredible. These bags have trekked around the world with us, to our shoots, through airports, through mountain hikes and have survived it all. I continue to stand amazed at the fantastic functionality and the tenacity of these bags to endure it all.

Chris and I both use the Kelly "boy" bag. I love it because it's unisex and the size is perfect for what I like to carry at a wedding or shoot. It fits my go-to lenses, flash, cards and additional batteries. I also love the thoughtful little touches like the flap in the back that holds important paperwork... I use it to hold my plane tickets most times when we travel or important information about a shoot. I love that it's sturdy and has a flap so I never have to worry about my gear falling out... it's nice and secure. This is the best camera bag I have used. I just love it.

So today I have some super exciting news!! Kelly has given us one bag to GIVEAWAY to one lucky winner! Here's how to play... simply twitter something about this giveaway and include @SarahRhoads & @kellymooreclark in your tweet and leave us a comment here in this blog post about one of your dreams & goals for the 2011 year. We will be choosing a winner at random within the week. Good luck!

But I am determined to simply my living style, my stress level, and vigorously seek out new photographic inspirations, oh and to add tons of color into my life, first step, wall collaging every white surface in my apartment with the help of my creative roomie! 2011, bring it on!

I have such a new outlook on the way I want to run my business and am so excited about it...since I sold ALL of my gear and put my business to the side a year ago to help get my family out of debt and spend some more time at home with my boys. Now I am starting over from scratch and could really use a FREE and amazing camera bag like Kelly's to start to get my gear back. Here's hoping and wishing. :)

Ok so I just left the previous comment and when I hit submit, I laughed and was a bit disgusted with myself because I realized I was afraid of being hones and publicly declaring my #1 goal for 2011. My #1 goal for 2011 is to become a full time photographer. I've been a part time photographer since 2002 and the thought of shooting full time excites me more than anything but it also scares me to death. I guess if we don't have goals that push us out of our comfort zone then we probably aren't challenging ourselves enough. There you go, that's me being honest.

Ryan says: Sunday, January 9, 2011, 03:03 PM

You ladies are freakin AMAZING! Thanks for the opportunity to win one of these sweet bags. One of my goals for 2011 is to shoot between 5 and 10 destination weddings and this bag would be ideal for traveling! Best wishes for 2011! Hope to meet you both at WPPI this year!

And although my goals for the year include just keeping my head on straight in the midst of all of it! ;) I know that the big things on my list are getting a more defined vision for the future of my photography and doing as many personal projects as I can possibly dream up! If i can do all this all while juggling more in my life than ever before, I will be a happy girl!

PS. Thank you for always being a MAJOR source of inspiration for me and i know SOO many other creatives out there!!!

Randy Coleman says: Sunday, January 9, 2011, 07:40 AM

Sarah and Kelly, Thank you for doing this. As a new photographer whose business has exploded over the last year, I am first humbled and thankful to for all the friends/clients we've made this year. They're willingness to entrust and invest with us amazes me all the time. I have two goals this year. First and foremost to build a staff and system that allows us to really put those clients first and give them over the top, exceptional service and imagery! Service that will literally leave them in awe. Second, I would love to photograph a funeral this year. For me there is something deep and emotional about the human spirit that is often only seen at a funeral. The contrast between joy and grief can be striking and is something I've seen as an observer and would love to capture as a photographer. Be blessed ~Randy

2010 was not my best year. Lied to, cheated on, divorced, etc. The only good thing about 2010 was that God brought someone into my life who has given me the strength to keep moving forward. He told me to pursue my passion of photography and last year, I shot my first wedding. From that wedding, together we booked 10 more weddings for 2011. I just launched my website and blog and from your encouraging words on your blog posts I felt like I can really do this. You and Chris are so incredibly inspiring. So to make a short story long, my goal for 2011 is to love till it hurts, remember to thank God for every day and do what i love, photography. God bless you both.

A huge goal for us this year is to have a safe and successful road trip to find a place we love and feel inspired. We start the road trip in May and will be traveling around for 5 months on the search for the perfect city for us. Then we plan to move there and start up the business again from scratch. It's a huge, risky plan. There are doubts and fears that it will be the wrong decision since we've worked so hard for what we've built here, but we don't feel happy here, so we're going out on this limb and have a goal to make it work!

Peter Azor says: Saturday, January 8, 2011, 05:22 AM

Hi Sarah & Chris,
I'll stand out from the crowd here. You didn't say the comment had to be positive, right? :)
The bags are gorgeous and look very well made. They might be the best bags for certain purposes. BUT are you seriously taking them to mountain hikes? I mean you either don't like your gear (water gets in easily as the flap doesn't seem to cover the whole length of the bag), or you exaggerated a bit and you meant to say "walks in a park" :)
I use my Lowepro CompuPrimus AW for everything from weddings to mountain hikes.
Goals? Make clients happier and finish my minimalist 365 project. Cliché but honest :)

Something rubbish happened five years ago and I feel like my life's been on hold ever since. But this year I am determined to change it. As soon as the Canadians open up their visa programme I am fighting my way in, taking a load of crafty courses, meeting a load of creative people and before the start of 2012 I will have worked out what I want to do with my life! (That's the plan anyway)

I have so many dreams and goals for this year, but one that I've been working really hard on lately is bringing my creative/fashion-inspired bridal portrait shoots to life. I want to create something really different and new to what's been done before, and I'm really trying to go above and beyond to achieve it. I'm loving it because it's pushing me out of my comfort zone and making me really DREAM BIG! Even if it's a total utter failure, I will be proud of all the effort I've been putting into it, and glad that I shot for myself. :) Keep up the amazingness, Sarah and Chris, you are both so inspiring to me!

My goal for 2011 is to be more pro-active with what I want and not let fear stop me. I also want to stop thinking about what others are doing, what they want me to do and be true to who I am. I'm a people pleaser at heart, so that last part's going to be a work in progress ;)

Dorothy turned me on to your work and Im amazed every time, Praise God your you two! Im so encouraged by you two and hearing how much Dorothy loves you two.

Here is my Goal
Bring Jesus into my work. I don't know what that looks like, but it He gave me this gift and Im guilty of lacking to bring him into my photography. Maybe it looks like praying before every shoot, maybe it looks like something more bold, I don't know but I must not ignore Him in this.

I never seem to keep my resolutions. So that is my main one for 2010. KEEP ON MOVING FORWARD, ie don't give up. I somehow how always get distracted whether it be a resolution to read more or lose that extra "happy weight" that made its way into my marriage. But this year, I don't won't to be lethargic, or half assed about keeping my goals. I want to make wise choices and really truly keep on the steady track to reaching my dreams. I will succeed this year!

Melissa Johnston says: Friday, January 7, 2011, 06:35 PM

HEY! I actually JUST emailed Kelly Moore yesterday wanting to know if she had anymore of those gorgeous JuJu bags in stock!
I have had a dream (and I guess you can call it a goal too!) to volunteer in a country that are in need for a while now. First, I had to come up with the money and figure out where to go. It was such an amazing coincidence that I was asked by a volunteer company to photograph the work that they do in India and Nepal a few months ago!!! I of course excepted but couldn't do it without volunteering myself so I will photographing as well as working in orphanages in Feb and March! I am so blessed to finally be realizing one huge dream of mine. Good luck to everyone who's entered this contest and thank you sooo much to Sarah Rhoads and Kelly Moore for this opportunity :) xxo

As I step into 2011, I embark on a new journey in life; the arrival of my first child. As I prepare for this little girl, I am challenged to dream twice as big! I will be pouring myself into her, but in order to do so I must keep my personal dreams and goals alive and stay inspired. For me, inspiration comes from the stories of people around me, art, nature, film, music, and Jesus, my source of all that represents life, love, beauty and goodness. I will finally pursue some of the projects I am passionate about, and in the process, create a world for my little girl that allows her to plumb the depths of her imagination. I believe our culture by in large has lost the ability to imagine, therefore in 2011 and beyond, i seek to recapture and reawaken imagination in our family through the arts, primarily through my love and joy for photography!

April Russell says: Friday, January 7, 2011, 06:01 PM

This is amazing. I have many goals this year that I may or may not meet. I am OK with not meeting all of them. I've decided it's time to go after what I want rather than trying to fulfill others. I live in a small Southern town that doesn't get different or unique. For so long I've done the photos they've wanted, while doing a few for me on the side. I CAN"T TAKE IT ANYMORE! HA! So this year I am revamping and rebranding April Russell Photography. I am also looking forward to including my AMAZING and talented hubby in the works of my business. I guess most of all this year I just wanna let me be me and trust that it will all work out in the end. I am grateful that I even have the opportunity to do that!

Thanks to you guys for your inspiration and thanks for this amazing giveaway! I've been wanting one of these for a long while!

2011. This is my year:) I just had my golden birthday, turned 30 on December 30th. It was pretty epic for me in an emotional way. It was weird. I feel like 2010 has been just a huge platform of learning and growing and cutting away of the fat. I feel more focused then ever, Im actually starting to live out my priorities naturally instead of it being forced. This is the year I follow my dreams, buckle down and do the hard work to break from my 8-5 'paycheck' job that steals my energy and passion... I will be a full time photographer this year. How do I know? Cause Im ready to take the risk, ready to jump and let God carry me through with the passion I have for people leading the way on this new photographic adventure. Im ready to put in the hard work. A Kelly Moore bag would be the cherry on top! Ha!! no joke thought, the bags are legit!

Carrie Jo says: Friday, January 7, 2011, 01:53 PM

Such a fan of this bag! Love it! I'm always looking for a bag worth keeping around (and a companion on all my travels/weddings). I totally trust your experience with it.

My dream is to see more couples celebrate their weddings by giving to others in need. This past year I was able to see a glimpse of that: 7000 people in Africa were given water because of my clients weddings. And I can't wait to celebrate more of that!

My goal for this year is to inspire more couples to do the same. I would love to see that number grow beyond what my tiny brain can even fathom. God is big! And He loves his children, including the many couples celebrating the beginning of their marriages AND the many people in need of water around the world. Excited for a new year!

Thank you for inspiring so many photographers with your work!

This past Dec. I made a secret promise to 2011 that I would find the perfect couple who deserves something nice and photograph their wedding for $0. I didn't want to advertise it or anything like that. I didn't want anyone to know I was on the lookout. I was determined that the perfect couple would be somehow placed in my life if I just kept my eyes open. And HELLOOO!!! The NEXT WEEK I discovered that "perfect couple." The way our lives were intertwined and the amazing story they have to tell is just beyond where I ever thought this little adventure would take me. Their wedding is in January! This month! LIKE, HOW CRAZY AWESOME IS THAT?? I will fulfill one of my dreams at the beginning of the year!!! I have a feeling it will be much more of a blessing to me than to them. That's just how this kinda stuff works.

Oooh, great giveaway! I don't twitter but I have just got a new computer at last so maybe I need to learn! :)

My goal for 2011 is just to embrace all the adventures and new sights and friends that the year brings- and to start a photo blog! (As I am starting the year in New Zealand, it is also to somehow get into The Hobbit....aim high I say :) (or hobbit-size low))

(PS. I loved your NZ pictures!)

2011- get the finishing touches done on my photo business- I really want to streamline my brand, from a new site, processes to not looking like a turtle at weddings cause I shoot with two cameras on my neck and a huge backpack :)

Oh my gosh! I was just looking at these bags the other day and really wanted one!!! This is a wonderful giveaway!!!

One goal for 2011 is to get a uber cute room ready for my first child!!! Also, I'm relatively new to photography so 1 goal is to master my camera. I dream of becoming a unique professional photographer and 2011 is the beginning for that to becoming a reality!!

Nicole says: Friday, January 7, 2011, 12:26 PM

One of my biggest goals is to create and capture memories for myself. The past two years I have been so involved in photographing others that I have so few images of me and my husband. Very doable and realistic goal! :)

2. Meet and work with more of my influences/inspirations this year. (your work, sarah, has definitely been an inspiration this last year) Soak up all the knowledge I can!

Laura says: Friday, January 7, 2011, 11:58 AM

So many dreams and goals for 2011! One goal my husband and I share for this year is to remember all of our closest friends and family's birthdays with a handwritten card. It's a little silly, but this simple gesture really makes us feel good ourselves, so we're making a resolution to pay it forward this year :-)

May all your dreams and goals for this year come true.

xo,
Laura

2010 has been a year full of learning. I'm so excited for 2011 and to take all the things that didn't work, get rid of them, and start fresh! My goal this year is to hire an office manager who can take care of the thing I don't physically have to do my self and free up my time so I can shoot more, or most importantly, spend that time with my husband. I'm so excited to see what this year holds. Hope yours is beyond what you imagined :)

this bag would be perfect for that trip ;)

Well I checked out Donald Miller's blog since you mentioned him and he suggests that you do not talk about your resolutions and goals! ha... ah well, I don't think it will hold me back. One of my on going goals is always trying to be a better person and not just nicer but a more understanding, enlightened person, I have a long way to go... I'm not just saying that to be like a beauty contestant response either, honestly I see the bad side of myself and I want to be better. One of my goals for my life is to live out the dream, to do what excites me and challenges and scares me because I so badly don't want to fail at the one thing I really love to do and for so long I didn't try because I figured I could not succeed but I don't want to be held back any longer, I want to put myself into photography, all of myself and see what happens and hopefully I will be lead to a new career because retail is not what I was meant to do for the rest of my life... so specifically this year my goal is to continue to work hard, real hard, and to plan creative shoots and shoot more families and weddings.

Claire says: Friday, January 7, 2011, 11:43 AM

This year, I want to become better at wielding my camera like a tool, to be able to quickly capture raw and beautiful moments and to have a greater ability to use my camera to produce the things I dream up in my mind.

Hey Sarah and Chris!

I entered into the VOICE video contest on TRA blog and was a runner up! I did the rap video ;-) Anyway, I have been so inspired by your work and just been getting into my own personal style and I'm excited to release my 1st ever website as a photographer! This year is going to be full of opportunities and I'm very excited and blessed to be where I am at. I have this gift and sometimes feel like I don't deserve all of this with so many people out in this world suffering and dying because of lack of clean water. SO It inspires me to live the life I've been given and to make a difference with my talents not for me and my glory. I love your style and creativity and it encourages me. So thank you for being you! Blessings in this new year! May your business reach a new level that you never thought possible!

Cheers,

Tessa

after a crazy awesome but intense summer with a newborn and a ton of work, I got to December and felt like I was only a shred of a person. I was burnt out working on giving my clients and son the very best that I forgot about myself and my husband (sad). While I wouldn't trade my clients or my family for anything I do realize that I can't continue to drag myself through the steps of life. So my goal for 2011 is to give myself time to recharge and refresh myself so that what I am giving my clients and family isn't stale old leftovers but yummy hot off the creative press, lovelyness! Starting with running 3 times a week and reading and finishing at least a book a month! We are also implemnty one day a week stricktly to family, no email, messages, nada! Just me and my two men!

My dreams and goals for 2011 may be quite different from most. I'm going into my second year of photography with a baby due in March, a possible location change, and a hope to make what really matters my priority. With everything seeming a bit unstable I'm hoping to love my friends and family well and have a client base that is more than just clients but clients that become friends and feel valued when I'm working with them. Maybe that sounds cheesy but life is too short to care too much about working non stop and making a ton of money.

Instead of killing myself by working all the time, but without structure, I'm doing my best to be intentional about the time I spend on work, on friendships, and on life. I'm taking Mondays off, since I work on Saturdays, and I did my best to write myself a good daily & weekly schedule, as well. I want to be in a steady, consistent life flow by May or June.

My goal for 2011 is to branch out more. I love the arts. I am a web/video designer, I paint, I sew, I do crafts....etc. The one thing I have always wanted to be good at, but have only experimented with is photography. I am starting off the year right by taking a class. Thank you for inspiring me with your amazing photos and offering such a fabulous give away!

Happy New Year!!! :) One of my goals for 2011 is to run a 10k. Doesn't seem like a huge deal to most people, but for me its big. Actually a marathon would be ideal... but... baby steps. :) I'm signing up for the Sun Run in Vancouver and not only am I going to run, I am going to kill it. I don't care about my time or what place I finish... I just want to finish knowing after all these years of wanting to do it, I did it and finished with a smile on my face. (and a heart that didnt explode) :)

If someone would have told me on January 1, 2010 that in the next year I would start a photography business, start up a non-profit for an orphanage in Uganda (www.lovegrows.org), be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and thryoid cancer all in one year, I would have called them crazy. But that's the card's God gave me in 2010. Although it wasn't what I expected, it has greatly changed my perspective on life in general and for that I feel blessed. My goal for 2011 is to just LIVE.. to be grateful for each day.. to learn from the good and the bad and never talk one second for granted.

I probably overdid it on goals/dreams this year. Most are work related but the one I’m most excited about is cooking something new each week with my husband. We love to cook together but due to the business of life, we usually end up eating the same meals each week. Sometimes we eat black bean veggie burgers 3x in the same week! More time doing fun things together and delicious meals!

My husband and I have been gifted with both photographic and video talents. Beyond that, we have a passion for being the voice for the voiceless and defending the most defenseless: babies in the womb. This year, we are taking initial steps of faith toward producing a pro-life documentary featuring the testimonies of doctors and medical professionals who were once involved in the abortion industry.

Outside the chance of winning your contest, we ask for your prayers of courage, wisdom and guidance.

Bless you this new year!
